This crossing of the High Atlas is full of contrasts. Violent contrast between the aridity of the mountains and the green of the oases of the valley bottoms. These high valleys of the high central Atlas are open to any walker who wishes to make the original and easy discovery. Accompanied by a team of Berber nomads, this trip is a superb crossing of the Atlas. From the valley of Aït Bouguemez to the valley of roses, a cocktail of landscapes and unforgettable encounters: discovery of the Berber way of life, hiking through fabulous landscapes: bare soils, green valleys with terraced crops, narrow gorges of the river M’goun and superb adobe villages.

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech
Reception at the airport, transfer and installation in a comfortable hotel (***) near the famous Djemaa El Fna square.

Day 2: Marrakech – Aït Boulli valley – Ait Bouguemez
Departure from Marrakech around 8:00 am by minibus towards Demnate. The road enters the High Atlas mountains and will lead us to the village of Agouti, The afternoon is sacrificed to the participation, each on his own, in the life of these Montagnards, work in the fields with the women in the harvest of wheat, barley, potato, etc. Opportunity to discover and participate in weaving among the villagers, The idea is to experience a magical and unforgettable moment, tradition, hospitality, tolerance, Discretion and humor. First night in a gîte in Agouti

Day 3: Ait Bougmez discovery of the valley
Today we are walking the Aguerd Ouzrou discovery trail, which allows us to better understand everything we have seen in recent days: life in the fields, earthen constructions in villages, the Koranic school … and even traces of dinosaurs! The whole history of the valley is written there … On the way back and for those who wish, we go up to the attic of Sidi Moussa, where our tour guide will tell us about the legends that inhabit the valley. From this promontory, we have a beautiful view over the whole valley.

Day 4: Agouti – Azib n Ikkis – Tinghirmatine plateau
We start our trek after meeting our mule team. By tracks we reach the Arous valley and the village that bears the same name, where Berber shepherds peacefully lead their flocks while others, farmers, drain the water towards their green terraces at the bottom of the valley. Through a canyon, so narrow it barely allows sunlight to penetrate, we climb to the altitude sheepfolds, the azibs, n’Ikkis. Superb view of the summit ridge of the MGoun massif (4068m). We follow the path following the left bank of Ikkis stream to the Tinghirmatine Circus. Installation of the bivouac near the sheepfolds of the nomads of Aait Atta, with a remarkable view. 5 hours of walking / Ascent 550 m.

Day 5: Tinghirmatine plateau – the source of Mgoun (Aflafal)
It’s a little day full of surprises, in a beautiful, colorful landscape. Fairy chimneys stand along Oullilymt Creek. Thuriferous junipers grow on the sides of the valley going towards the resurgence of Aflafal “the magic source” (2300 m). We will discover the postural world of the great nomadic tribes. On the mountainside and on the steep walls of the cliffs, the Berbers, herders of sheep, goats and camels, have dug shelters for their families and their herds for centuries when they arrive from the south (from the beginning of May to the end of September). We will surely enjoy tea with one of the families. Camp near the source of M’Goun and surprise from our cook. Swimming possible. 5 hours of walking D = 500m / M = 400

Day 6: The source of M’Goun (Aflafal) -Imi n’Irket
We gradually leave the high mountain landscapes to descend the high and narrow valley of M’Goun (Ouzighimt): The fields are cultivated on narrow terraces, the isolated hamlets are sheltered at the foot of the ridges of Jebel Wagoulzat. Women with dark hair styled in raised braids rarely leave their villages. Camp in the village of Imi n’Irket (2000 m). 5 hours of walking – D = 500m / M = 200m

Day 7: M’goun Gorge – Tighranimine (1700m)
We cross other villages, clinging to the mountainside. The valley tightens very strongly. The M’Goun gorges cannot be described, it is a landscape as sumptuous as it is wild. After the suspended passage, says Asderm N Sidi Hmad, we cross the most impressive part, called Achaabou (pipe), a large canyon with sculpted and eroded walls, about 500 m high. and dotted with groves of oleander. Sometimes the passage narrows until it only reaches a few meters… A whole atmosphere !. We go out on the circus of Tighranimine. Camp in Tighranimine at 1700m altitude. 5 hours of walking – D = 300m

Day 8: Gorges du Mgoun – Boutaghrar (1500m)
A superb stage, again: River, narrow gorges, impressive cliffs. Discovery of the mountain and Berber people installed between the austere mountains where no road can pass. Night in a lodge with shower in Boutaghrar, a very beautiful village of ocher earth where Berber peasants cultivate and dry the roses that perfumers from all over the world tear off. 5 hours of walking – D = 200 m

Day 9: Boutaghrar – Merzouga
Departure in the morning from the lodging by the road towards the gorges of Toudra walk in the gorges lunch and after we continue towards Erfoud famous for its fossilized marbles; we pass through Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet and we head by the track towards the desert of Merzouga. Arrived at the foot of the dunes, we set off on a dromedary (1 hour) for the bivouac located in the middle of Erg Chebbi. Sunset, mint tea, dinner, entertainment and night in a tent or under the stars.

Day 10: Merzouga – Ait Benhaddou
After the little camel ride and breakfast, Departure by 4×4 from Merzouga to Tazzarine, through the beautiful desert and mountainous landscapes, Oasis, kasbah to the Drâa valley via n’kob, Tansikht. Descent to the ‘wadi Drâa verdant in Agdz, crossing the villages of ocher earth. Dinner and overnight in Ouarzazat

Day 11: Ait Benhadou – Marrakech
Departure in the morning after breakfast by the mountain road, direction Ait Ben Haddou visit of the Kasba. On the road we will stop in Telouet to visit the Kasbah of telouet, The midday meal will be taken in Tadart. Then we continue our road towards Marrakech with planned photo stops. We will arrive at the end of the afternoon in Marrakech in a riad or hotel

Day 12: Departure from Marrakech
Transfer to the airport and return flight.
